The Time of our Life

Tik Tok goes the clock. Time is the one of the things we universally share. It is a constant we can rely on or be frustrated by. Being early, being on time or being late are all moments we experience – sometimes in anguish! It can become our calling card. Yes, she’s/he’s on “Warwick time”!  Which is generally a 15-minute window. For all the gadgets we have, they never stop us from being interrupted. Although I’m surrounded by time reminders, a phone, an iPad, a computer, yet I still wear the most basic Timex watch. It’s a security thing and it is reassuring for its immediacy and accuracy. I especially like that I can light it up in the middle of the night.

At this time of the year the changes in the hours of the day are fascinating. I listen to public radio and every morning they mention the incremental increase in daylight. It is, after a long Winter, a helpful reminder that the days are getting longer and that a new season approaches. It is part of the internal clock as well. We anticipate the lengthening days and warmer temperatures as a welcome relief. For me personally, it is planting season and a reason to be outside closer to the earth.

The mild winter is something else. The rhythm and timing of the natural world is given the indication that Winter is waning and yet there may surely be some surprises before we get there. That surprise may have repercussions and so we need to watch and be careful. Pea planting is usually marked on the calendar to coincide with St Patrick’s Day. Like many, I’m eager and may try for a head start.

So, in the ballad made famous by The Rolling Stones “Tiiii-ime is on my side, yes, it is!” Well, that is an optimistic declaration but worth remembering at this time of year. Timely!

We are betwixt and between and time marches on, taking us along for the ride. Spring is here formally in 4 weeks. Our calendars are becoming busy and marked by Christian and Jewish holy days. It is a good time to be alive and feel the joy of each day. We are surrounded by earthly miracles as long as we take the time to enjoy!

The next Village Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
