In the Mix

We are in the flurry of the Holidays or should I say fury! The last night of Hanukkah is December 15th. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was December 12th.  On Sunday, December 10th, the ‘Operation Toys” train came to the Village at the Chase and Kuiken Brothers parking lots on their journey to multiple communities to pick up toys for military families. This yearly event is organized by the Middletown and New Jersey Railroad and the United States Marines. The calendar is dotted with many wonderful holiday activities.

This past Sunday was the 83rd annual Holiday Concert by the Warwick Valley Chorale. This year’s program included the Magnificat by John Rutter and a curated selection of carols and traditional Jewish music. Ron De Fesi is the Conductor and Gail Johnson is the Chorale’s Accompanist. The Chorale is made up of over 100 men and women, with a wide range of talent and abilities. The concert is always a delight and a gift to the community. A community chorale is becoming rarer and to have one that is so inclusive, and professional is extraordinary. Simply, thank you for filling our hearts with song and allowing us to get lost in beautiful music for a fleeting moment.

Just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to Holiday events and offerings! For a calendar of events go to https://www.hellowarwickvalley.com/.

The Angel Tree is a much beloved tradition in our community through the efforts of the Warwick Merchants Guild.  The tree is decorated with suggested donations to local organizations who depend on our contributions. The Tree is located on the Fence by Akins’s Pharmacy – right next to where the Lions Club members are ringing the bell for the Salvation Army!

Home for the Holidays is a continual series of events by the Merchant Guild, including the free horse and buggy rides starting on Railroad Avenue. On December 16th, it’s a fun elf inspired event. Participating stores will have a hidden elf tucked somewhere in their shop. If you find the elf, you win a raffle ticket for a basket of stocking stuffers from a local store. The raffle tickets are brought to the Bertoni Gallery for the drawing.

We are lucky to live in a place where the sights and sounds of the season surround us and the season of receiving is matched by charitable giving! Enjoy!

The next Village Board meeting will take place on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
