Village resident and firefighter James Gerstner is the President of the Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. This year the OCVFA’s 104th Convention is taking place in Warwick along with the annual county-wide parade. The convention and parade coincide with the Warwick Fire Department’s celebration of their 150th Anniversary.
The stars are aligned, and this has been a year of multiple celebrations honoring our firemen. Events including Apple Eve, 150th Installation Dinner, Firemen’s Carnival and fireworks, White Hat Party and the upcoming Firemen’s Parade have each been given an emphasis to honor the 150 years of service to the Warwick Community. Congratulations to Chief Phil Cialella and all our firefighters and committee members for a remarkable andmemorable year.
We are lucky to have committed volunteers who are ready at a moment’s notice to help us in a time of need or catastrophe. These men and women are our neighbors and friends, they are also experienced professionals who are continually training to be prepared for any situation. The parade this Saturday, September 28th steps off at 2:00 p.m. and will be a showstopper. I urge all our residents and businesses along the parade route to get their bunting on!!
Condolences
Warwick lost an important and loved citizen, Rocco “Rocky” Garcia, who passed away Friday, September 13th. Rocky was a lifelong resident who served his country in the US Navy. He was an extraordinary athlete in his youth and part of Warwick High Schools Hall of Fame for football and basketball. He would often tell me about playing against my dad who was on the rival Highland Falls basketball team. He loved sports and promoted them in every way, whether as a team member or sponsor. Rocky had an active role in our community and part ofWarwick’s rich fabric. He will be missed. On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees I send condolences and sympathy to the Garcia Family.
