Spring, Sprang, Sprung!

Spring has finally arrived in the Warwick valley and with it the beauty that surrounds us – every shade of green, blue skies and a sea of orchards in bloom. It is also the beginning of a season of activities and events.

Friday, April 25th, at 9:00 a.m. the Village of Warwick and the Warwick Valley Gardeners will be celebrating Arbor Day with tree planting. The third-grade classes from Park Avenue Elementary School will be joining us as we plant a tulip tree in the Roger Metzger Arboretum in Stanley Deming Park. The Village will be celebrating its 41st year as a Tree City and its 25th year as a recipient of the Growth Award. The Warwick Valley Gardeners will also be planting a tree at Winstanley Park, 133 Windemere Ave, in Greenwood Lake at 11:00 a.m. The Town of Warwick will be celebrating Arbor Day on Saturday, April 26th, at 9:30 a.m. with a tree planting at Mountain Lake Park, 46 Bowen Road. The public is invited to all three ceremonies.

The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and Warwick Visitor’s Center will have its official Ribbon Cutting on Friday, April 25th at 4:00 p.m. at their new office at 75 Main Street. Included will be a plaque dedication to Edwin Strong who was the Director of the Strong-Basille Funeral Home that formally was on this site. Join us for a first look at a mural by artist Judy Pedersen that graces a wall of the Visitor’s Center that depicts a whimsical map of Warwick Valley. The mural was made possible through a grant from the Orange County Legislature.  Light refreshments will be served.

On April 26th, weather permitting, the annual Little League Parade will be lining up on High Street with the parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade leads to Veteran’s Memorial Park for the opening day ceremony. The parade and ceremony are one of the rites of Spring.

Operation Clean Sweep 2025 is underway in Warwick and will culminate on Saturday, April 26th, with a town-wide recycling and cleanup event from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Sponsored by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, the day includes numerous recycling opportunities:

  • E-waste, including computers and televisions, can be brought to The Computer Guy at 2 Overlook Drive from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Household appliances will not be accepted.

Tree-cycle is a celebration of Earth Day. Originally slated for Saturday, April 26th, it will be held on Sunday the 27th, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a free event at Stanley Deming Park, celebrating art, community, and environmental action. It features art installations including Warwick’s Artist in Resident Sculptor Nicole Hickman who will be working on a live sculpture using plants as well as muralist Beth Laule who will be creating a mural depicting the cycle of nature. There will also be activities, live performances, information booths on local sustainability and initiatives. The event is sponsored by Wickham Works, an Artist Collective.

The Warwick Valley Farmers Market will begin the season on Sunday, April 27th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the South Street Parking lot in the Village of Warwick. Opened in June 1994 it is one of the oldest Markets regionally. The market offers fresh seasonal produce as well as meats, free range eggs, cheese, artisanal breads, flowers, garden plants, wines, hard ciders, jams, jellies and maple syrup. This is a wonderful way to connect to our agricultural community and all it has to offer. The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Phew! Happy Spring!
