FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Apple Land

This Sunday, October 2nd Applefest will be back after a two-year hiatus. The question remains what to expect? Will our streets swell with some 30,000 visitors that in previous years have descended upon the Village? The Chamber and Community Center have worked feverishly to organize this well-loved event. The Village’s part has been all about setting the stage, making sure the festival area is in place, clean, well swept, all the electric is working, stages delivered, barricades set. The Town of Warwick’s Police Department, with the infusion of State Police, are well prepared and ready to ensure this will be a safe event. There is tremendous attention to detail for a festival this size.

Whether you are a member of one of our Civic Organizations, Non-Profits, or Churches, this is a day that can help boost local coffers. This of course is not possible without the help of hundreds of volunteers, some involved with Applefest directly or helping their organization. I remember quite well as a Jaycee being on fritter patrol! Ah, the smell of fried dough! Always worth the cause.

The local mantra, “get in early, get out early” this way you can get to see the crafts and vendors, eat an early apple treat and enjoy the event before throngs make moving a strategy. In the September edition of the Warwick Valley Scene Zine is a Comprehensive, “Local’s Survival Guide” which offers some valuable and sage guidance. Have fun!

Thank you to the Warwick Chamber of Commerce, the Warwick Community Center and all involved in the return of Applefest.
