Bulk Trash Pickup Week: Important Note on Appliances with Refrigerants

Village of Warwick residents, as Bulk Waste Days approach, please note that appliances containing refrigerants cannot be disposed of during these days. Refrigerants must be recycled using specialized methods to prevent the release of potent greenhouse gasses (GHG).

To put it in perspective, responsibly handling refrigerants from just five window AC units equates to removing an average car from the road for a year.

If appliances are placed with bulk waste, DPW won’t collect them.

For working refrigerators or freezers: Visit the O&R website or dial 866-552-3755. They’ll collect your appliance and offer a $25 rebate.

For other appliances, including non-working ones with refrigerants: Kindly take them to Orange County Transfer Stations, such as the one at 21 Training Center Lane, New Hampton, NY 10958 (845-374-1929). A fee of $15 per appliance applies.

Alternatively, consider the Spring 2024 “Coolest Recycling Drive”, where Sustainable Warwick will accept these for free.
