In Good Hands

I imagine that when a police officer starts his or her daily shift they realize that anything can occur. It’s the world we live in, where we expect the unexpected and are prepared for anything that comes our way. This is true for all our emergency response teams. No amount of training can completely prepare us for real-life circumstances and emergencies. Most importantly is the ability to think on our feet.

The recent dog attack incident is an example of that, and I want to thank Chief John Rader and his officers for their on-the-scene immediacy and lifesaving actions. Their quick action and clear deliberate response were what insured safety and protected the lives of both mother and child. What occurred happened in minutes and each decision was critical to the protection of all involved. It’s not often we are privy to the unfolding of an emergency. This was police work at its finest and I thank the Warwick Police Department for their responsiveness and thoroughness. As a community, we are in good hands.

On Tuesday, August 1st, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, the Warwick Valley Prevention Coalition and the Town of Warwick Police Department will be collaborating to bring us the 40th annual National Night Out. This is a free, family-friendly event and all are welcome. There will be much to do. Adults can make ID Cards for their children, there will be trucks and vehicles on display from our emergency response organizations and our Department of Public Works, as well as crafts and other activities. Local Organizations will be on hand with information about what they do in our community.

There will be refreshments including hot dogs cooked up by the Warwick PD. A special treat this year will be a performance by the Black Dirt Bandits. This high-energy, musically talented group perform new country covers as well as original tunes.

This is an event that celebrates community and strengthens our relationships with each other. It’s a moment to relax, have fun and get to meet the people that are dedicated to keeping Warwick safe.

The next Village Board Meeting will take place on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
