Fly Away Home: Monarch Village

Spring in the Warwick Valley has hit its full stride! Beautiful weather, mild temperatures, and a host of activities mark this busy time. In the Village you can count on weekend events, the Farmers Market is open; Lewis Park is a staging area for so many interesting gatherings; the sounds of kids playing and having fun fills the air at the Stanley Deming Playground; every playing and practice field in Memorial Park is being used. People are out and about and enjoying the moment and the place.

This Saturday, May 20, 2023, will be the first annual Pollinator Fest! The event is a fundraiser with proceeds going to Orange Environments, Hudson Valley Pollinator Project. The event is at Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery, 114 Little York Road from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include live music and a native plant sale. The Village of Warwick is the first “Monarch Village” designated in New York State and with that is a commitment to increase the knowledge and information on the importance of pollinator pathways. ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS! On Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 10 a.m. we will be planting the flowerpots that we put out annually throughout our downtown. This is a collaborative effort, the pot’s floral combination was designed by Deborah Sweeton, and the plants are grown by local growers, Scheuermann Farms, Corwin’s Greenhouse and Florist, Sugarloaf Mt. Herb, and Emmerich’s Greenhouses. Please join us at the DPW Garage in Veteran’s Memorial Park.  All are invited to help, bring a hand trowel, and be prepared to get your hands dirty!

The next Village Board Meeting will take place on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
