Vernerable!

The Vernal Equinox begins today at 5:24 pm which marks the beginning of Spring. It is one of the earliest Spring on record actually since 1896! The great indicator for me is the early morning chatter and trill of birds outside my window – better than an alarm clock! Spring brings longer days, planting season and is the start of high Holy Days in the Christian and Jewish faiths. Although this years Winter was relatively mild it’s still a long stretch for being cooped up, so Spring is the perfect solution- a perfect dose of optimism when most needed.

This past Saturday the Warwick Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3 McGuiness- McDonald Division sponsored a St Patrick’s Day Parade. In the bright morning light hundreds of folks came out to watch and to celebrate.

This years Grand Marshal was Patsy Donnelly- a Warwick resident whose story of his fight for citizenship is remarkable. Patsy was from Northern Ireland and in his youth was swept up in a village wide raid though he was not politically involved in the issues that faced his country. Many years later, after living in America for decades, he applied for citizenship and because of the early record his citizenship was denied and he was nearly deported. Luckily the legal system prevailed and a judge determined the record was unjust leading the road to citizenship. Congratulations Patsy and to your family! I would like to thank parade organizer Bran McCabe, the Warwick Police Department and the Village DPW for making the first parade of the season which was a wonderful community event.

Looking for a way to meet your neighbors? The Village has a part-time position to monitor the brush pile at our DPW facility in Memorial Park. For more information, please visit the Village of Warwick website at https://villageofwarwick.org/2023/03/help-wanted-part-time-brush-pile-attendant/

Tuesday, March 21, 2024, will be a special Village election. Polls are open from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Voting is at the Goodwill Hook and Ladder Co. 25 Church Street Extension. There are two candidates on the ballot, Scott Brown and Mary Collura. The election is for a one-year term to fill an unexpired term due to a vacancy.

Congratulations to the Warwick Police Department for their recent accreditation. A well-deserved honor for exemplary work. We are very proud of your commitment to public safety and our community.
