FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Summer Begins!

It was a weekend filled with the high energy and the bright lights of the Firemen’s Carnival which led to a remarkable display of fireworks on Saturday evening. There was also the pomp and circumstance as the graduating class of 2022 formally completed their High School education.

It is officially the beginning of Summer and while I was walking to my car after visiting the carnival, I was stopped in my tracks to watch fireflies begin their nightly light show. As I drove home, another reminder of nature – the distinct  smell of skunk! This is part of country living – olfactory surprises! The staff at Village Hall can vouch for the phone calls we get in Spring and early Summer when manure is being spread on the farm fields that surround the Village. To newcomers it’s a shock, to old timers it’s a part of the seasonal calendar. A reminder of where we are and the significance of farming which is the largest segment of our local economy.

I ran into my friend, Deb Schweikart, at the Carnival and she shared some amazing photographs of the event and I share them with you. The images are a bit Oz-like. I guess at some point we all think we’ve found a magical land. In our case with some surprising smells but nonetheless beautiful in its physical, natural and human quotient.

I want to thank the Warwick Valley Firemen for bringing us the Jeff Schadt Memorial Carnival. It gives fun and joy to so many. Jeff is beaming down!

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2022. Your resilience during a global pandemic; your achievements and incredible spirit through adversity has been an example to us all. You are Warwick Strong – smart, talented and prepared. The rainbow is a timely image, follow yours, where it leads and find adventure but always remember on the other end  there is an emerald valley and it’s home.

The next Village Board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on  Monday, June 27, 2022 at Village Hall, 77 Main Street, Warwick, NY.
