FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: “Seeds are in!”

“Seeds are in!”

At this time of year, you can smell the earth coming alive. When we look closely, the natural world that surrounds us is tentatively but surely moving ahead. Even with the recent passing storm it doesn’t interrupt the schedule and nature’s agenda that carries us to Spring. This is also a season of preparation. As a gardener, I am always glad to see the sign at Wadeson’s that says ‘Seeds are in!” At Village Hall we are preparing as well. Plans are being reviewed for the upcoming Public Works projects. Our parks and roads are being assessed for winter damage and needed repairs. The list is long but the men and women that comprise our Village staff and departments are in preparation mode. This is also a season of anticipation.

Our organizations are also preparing for a hopeful post-COVID Spring with planned events and activities. These take on a special meaning as they are the welcome relief after two years of guarded or curtailed activities. At the last Village Board meeting we gave the GREEN LIGHT for a St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Thursday, March 17, 2022. The parade kickoff is at 3:00 pm starting at St. Anthony’s/Bon Secour parking lot and will end at Railroad Green with music and a short ceremony. The parade is being organized by Warwick Division 3 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Warwick Police Chief Tom McGovern will be the Grand Marshal. As I write this, I feel a sense of excitement for the first parade of 2022. I’m hoping that this parade will be an annual event – if we’re lucky it will!

At the last Village Board meeting we also OK’d the annual Little League Opening Day Parade on April 23rd and The Chamber Community Showcase on May 7th, and there are many more events being planned! As these activities get closer, we’ll make sure we give you the details. For the time being, get out your green and come downtown as we celebrate all things Irish.
