From the Mayor’s Office: It’s a Warwick Thing

A new year! A point in time, split by seconds. Out with the old, in with the new! There will be revelry and noise, resolutions promised and some broken and so the start of a new year.  At this point we are well seasoned to change in the age of COVID and its variants. In fact, uncertainty has defined how we plan. But all said, I look forward to the New Year.

For myself it’s a moment to reflect and to enjoy a sense of time and place. New Year’s Day is a day for a long walk, maybe even a hike, preferably through woods that lead to an elevation that I can perch and visually take in as much of the Valley. It’s those views, the expanded rolling hills, that settle my mind and fill me with promise. It’s a tangible promise of protecting and celebrating the nature that surrounds us and it’s maybe the same promise that has been passed on from generation to generation – the invisible baton of stewardship and love of this fine land that so many of us are committed to. We are blessed, it is surely a Warwick blessing that translates into our daily lives and the people we are surrounded by.

In the crisp January air with my fearless dog, Hugo, by my side the rest of the world falls away and the important things come into focus: family, home, health and wellbeing. Not a long list but a fragile one that always needs tending. I wonder what the year will bring but try not to project too far and most importantly savor the moment, the quiet and the company!

On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, Village Hall Staff and our Department of Public Works, I wish all a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

The next Village Board meeting will take place on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. and will be held through Zoom videoconference and may be viewed live by the public on the Village of Warwick, NY YouTube Channel.
