  • Develop a shared understanding of plan implementation progress to date, as well as upcoming actions by the Village, members of the group, and partners

  • Discuss and obtain feedback for scopes of work to be submitted for upcoming grant opportunities

Summary

  • The meeting started promptly at 6:30 pm and opened with introductions. Participants shared their name and organization
  • Trustee Foster opened with the agenda for the meeting, which included the following:
    • Introductions
    • Progress reports
    • State grant opportunities
    • Scope discussion
    • Adjourn
  • Following introductions, Trustee Foster, Mayor Newhard, and attendees talked through the progress report. This progress report is available in the attached meeting handout
  • Mayor Newhard explained the funding opportunity through Senator Scoufis’ office
  • Trustee Foster walked the group through the State’s Environmental Protection Fund Grant opportunity, which is due July 31, 2024. Information is available on the website here: https://regionalcouncils.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2024-05/Parks_Environmental_Protection_Fund_Presentation.pdf
  • The group supported submitting the Patriot Pathway, Ceremonial Space, and other walkable elements to Senator Scoufis for funding considerations, as well as design for the pedestrian space and implementation of other pedestrian / fitness features
  • The group pointed out that over 1500 youth and families participate in football alone and that having improved pedestrian spaces would have both recreational benefit, as well as economic
  • The group also discussed that it will be very important to include signage to let people know what construction to expect, when. The Warwick Skate Park Initiative and Lion’s Club representatives agreed to work on some signage to place at the park entrance near the Library

Village of Warwick Veteran’s Memorial Park Stakeholder Advisory Group

Progress Report – June 18, 2024

  • McFarland Path – has been continued to go up to the Heroes Garden at the front of Warwick Grove
  • Skate Park funded through a generous grant by the Kasuga Foundation (and pickle ball will be completed same time) – land clearing has been started and the construction of the skate park expected to take place Spring 2025
  • Patriot Pathway: Tom Brennan and Kendall Kless met with West Point for feedback on Memorial features
  • Joe Sanzone Eagle Scout project: Dog Park funding in progress
  • Pump Track land clearing started
  • Coordination for Kayak launches
  • Bathrooms: working on getting timers set so they are open to the public
  • Bleachers down
  • Other items planned for this year: Some of the walking paths, Over 35 field fixes, recycling bins, improved signage, pollinator paths, grant applications
