A Season Begins

Whether you were looking for handmade treasures at the Makers Market at Lewis Park, learning about the available resources we have for mental health at the Warwick Cares event on Railroad Green, having the best time in one of our Village parks, watching the pop-up car show at Dunkin Donuts, simply walking, shopping or eating in our fine Village, enjoying the Humane Society’s Walk n’ Wag,  working on a pollinator garden at Pine Island Park,  taking your kayak down the Wawayanda, having fun at Take a Kid Fishing Day, you were definitely in the right place! It only gets better from here as the events start lining up and unfolding. It’s a bit dizzying sometimes but then there are the options of staying home, enjoying the solitude of a walk in the woods, or visiting the big sky and black earth of Pine Island. Of course, there is the other side of the mountain and that beautiful 7-mile-long lake and all the fun and food it has to offer! The Warwick Valley has so much to discover and enjoy. On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of taking Congressman Patrick Ryan on a tour of our business district. Representative Ryan wanted to meet some of our businessmen and women. We made quite a number of stops and he was truly impressed with the energy of our community. Time was limited but I believe he got a good snapshot of who we are. Recently we received information that we received Community Project Grant funding through Congressman Ryan’s Office. The Village was awarded $1.6 million dollars for the upgrade of the well #3 purification plant.

In the midst of the weekend activity was a moment to take a pause and to offer last respects. My friend Stan Mocarsky passed away recently. Stan and I had our moments when we were truly at odds, but over time a friendship and respect grew between us. The service at the Muldar Chapel included a United States Navel tribute, with the Valley stretching below us, the flag ceremony was even more poignant and fitting for Stan as an appreciation and recognition for his service. Rest in Peace, my friend.

This coming Sunday, May 14th is Mother’s Day! On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, we wish all our Warwick Moms a beautiful and fun day.

Next Village Board Meeting will take place on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
