From the Mayor’s Office: A Joyful Connection

In the December twilight, with the shorter days and longer nights comes the bright glow of seasonal lights. They come in all forms from single candles in each window of historic homes to the splendid pageant created by Vince Poloniak on Spanktown Road and everything in between. The lighting of homes has become something of individual expression and it’s well worth an evening trip around Town to see the creativity, surprise, and delight of the unexpected. There is something very human about the light displays- something compelling. It is for a moment breaking the darkness of Winter announcing the holidays and a visual celebration. It is, in some ways, seeing the world through innocence- its roots in childhood fascination, and a joyful connection to the season.

In a world where there is more chaos and upset, less order and logic. The unabashed expression of brightening the world, creating light where there was darkness makes so much sense. There is a certain magic that happens. It’s soul satisfying for the creator and for the spectator; not only is it a respite from winter gloom it brings to us in the most wonderful way the sharing of happiness.

This weekend the Village will be hopping. Horse and buggy rides are scheduled for Saturday December 10th and Sunday December 11th from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Santa and his sled will be on Railroad Green on December 11th for photos from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

At 6 p.m. there will be a special bilingual Mass at St Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church on Sanfordville Road in honor of the Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe.
