FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: The Value of Teamwork

Fall is a busy time in the Village with events, parades, craft fairs, and festivals. None of these could happen without the work of many volunteers and the collaborative efforts of civic organizations and local government. This has been Warwick’s secret MO, understanding the value of teamwork and pursuing common goals that make us a better place.

Last week I spoke of our NY Forward Application. This undertaking was a good example of teamwork. The skills of many came together to create a strong application that showed our true strength but also the post-COVID challenges that we face as a destination for commerce and tourism. The collaborative effort included Planner, Peter Fairweather, Web Designers, Mark & Patty Damia, Village Board Members, Village Hall Office Staff, DPW Staff, local architects and contractors as well as many letters of support from organizations and elected officials. We are lucky to have an extraordinary level of talent and expertise so close to home. The most important part was the community outreach and participation – your voice which was the basis of the projects that make up this grant application. This Saturday, September 24th, is Warwick Highschool’s Homecoming. This is a moment when school spirit shines and we can all lose ourselves to the nostalgia of pep rallies, parades, homecoming kings and queens and their court, creative parade floats, and marching bands. This is a small town at its finest! The parade will be on Main St. around noon.

In Lewis Park, Wickham Works, in collaboration with the Warwick Historical Society, will be presenting the Fall Makers Market featuring some of the finest talented craftsmen and women from Warwick and the Hudson Valley. The event is September 24th and 25th 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m.

Warwick’s Hispanic Heritage Parade and Celebration is this Sunday, September 25th. The parade begins at 4:00 p.m. down Main Street and will lead down Third St. to the Memorial Park Pavilion for festivities. The theme for this year’s celebration is Una Voz de Amor, A Voice of Love.

These events speak of a vibrant, engaged community. Our local store owners and restaurants are an important part of the teamwork that makes us successful. They are here as the backbone of support that make Warwick a wonderful experience.
