FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: A Labor of Love

A long Labor Day weekend before us, a time to catch up. Relax, have fun. We are at the beginning of the apple season and visitors have already been exploring our orchards, farm markets and remarkable Valley. We have so much to be grateful for and its apparent not only in the physical beauty that surrounds us but also the built environment that has been created over time. Our Village is a patchwork of collective and thoughtful planning added to by each generation. Of course, not always perfect but always being adjusted, re-examined. In the end though the place we live is a personification of people who live here and it’s also their active engagement that make the difference.

What I see is the hard work, the community-based labor of love that makes us unique. When I look at my calendar, especially post COVID it is highlighted by so many meaningful activities whether it’s the celebration of a new business with a ribbon cutting, a homecoming or Hispanic Culture parade, a Summer Concert, a 9/11 Ceremony, the Children’s Book Festival, the Lion’s 5K run, the Taste of Warwick or Applefest they all present a spirit that defines us. It’s also the internal workings such as our tributes to Veterans, the Ecumenical Food Pantry, our sport leagues, the Boys and Girl Scouts, a community garden and our many clubs. This is to name only a few of the initiatives and activities that keep us involved.  We work so hard because we care and strive to make a better place for ourselves, our families and each other. That is the elixir, the magic potion that makes Warwick what it is.

Warwick students return to school on September 6th, please drive carefully. Remember the Village speed limit is 25 mph and when school is in session the speed limit in the area surrounding Park Avenue School is 20 mph. Please take care when you are in or near any of our Village parks as there is increased activity at this time of year, especially after school.

To our Warwick kids, parents and teachers have a great school year!

The next Village Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
