Mayor’s Corner: The Merry Month of May

From the Mayor’s Office

Friday May 13th!

The Merry Month of May

Spring on a municipal level is all about preparation and details. As I write this our DPW Crew is preparing Elm Street and Orchard Street for a repaving project. That paving should occur on May 23rd. This weekend multiple events will be happening in the Village, on Saturday and Sunday will be the Maker’s Market at Lewis Park organized by Wickham Works, Sunday is the famous Duck Derby to help benefit Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center and simultaneously the Warwick Valley Farmers’ Market in the South Street Parking lot. Hopefully the variable Spring weather will be with us.

Our parks are remarkable facilities and home to both planned activities such as leagues as well as spontaneous play in our playgrounds and skate facility.  We will begin our investigation to strengthen the planning for Memorial Park with a guided tour, brief history and listening session on Sunday, May 22nd starting at 10:00 at the Pavilion. This will be the beginning of information seeking from the public. A committee will be formed to work with Landscape Architect, Karen Arent, who drew up the Master Plan for Stanley Deming Park. All are welcome.

The Village of Warwick is recognized for its beauty. Our historic buildings, our gracious homes, parks and vibrant downtown. We are also known for our beautification efforts in the form of gardens, hanging baskets, planters and seasonal decor. The Warwick Valley Gardeners do a remarkable job ensuring 4 seasons of horticultural display through their care and maintenance of entry gardens, park gardens – Railroad Green, Memorial Park and the Village Hall Garden. This coming Wednesday, May 18th the Village will be collaborating with the Warwick Gardeners to plant the 60 flowerpots that line our streets. If you have a green thumb and would like to help out, please join in – call us at Village Hall (845) 986-2031 and sign up. Please bring a hand trough and gloves.

Post- COVID is shaping up to be reassuring that the events and activities we love are not lost. These are the activities that we share as a community and help create the important bonds we have as neighbors and residents. We are blessed.

The next Village Board meeting will take place on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
