A post-COVID Spring is before us. A glimmer of hope but the last two years have conditioned us not to get too far ahead of ourselves. For now, from here, the hills that surround us are greening up, the waves of naturalized daffodils on lawns and in our parks are showing signs of their yearly presence. Trees and shrubs are budding and the waters in our streams are running at a fast pace with every Spring shower. Nesting, rebirth – nature resumes and revives our spirits!

In Village Government there is also a yearly progression which begins with our first meeting in April known as a Reorganizational Meeting. This is the time when yearly contracts for consultants are renewed, appointments and completed terms are reviewed for reappointment. It’s also a moment when the Trustees are given liaison roles and responsibilities. This is a way of giving each Trustee direction on timely topics and helps them form relationships with the community and constituents. The full list of those liaison roles and responsibilities will be available on our website as soon as they are voted on at the coming meeting. Normally, those appointments are determined by the Mayor. This year with two new Trustees and a first-term Trustee, I felt it was better to have a conversation prior to conveying duties. A Work Session was put in place to discuss the different roles, so each Trustee could be a part of the process and help align their strengths and interests. A one-hour meeting became a three-hour meeting filled with important questions and conversation about the responsibilities, leadership, and stewardship of elected officials.

And so, we renew, dust ourselves off, work like souls inspired with the positive assurance and understanding that the future is something we share and the possibilities of doing good things, of making things better, of growing, celebrating, facing challenges and the rewards of success all lies before us.

The Reorganizational Meeting of the Village of Warwick will take place Monday, April 4, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
