FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Play Ball!

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 23rd at 10 a.m. will be the annual Little League Parade. Like so many activities, it has been absent from our calendar for the past two years. Events such as this punctuate small town life. We mark our lives with seasonal activities and to have these important moments back is a relief. It is in essence a return to normalcy. What better time to have these events return than Spring!

Also on the upcoming calendar, Friday, April 29th at 9:45 a.m. is the Village of Warwick’s Arbor Day Ceremony. This year we will be planting two flowering dogwood trees in the Roger Metzger Arboretum in Stanley Deming Park in honor of former Trustees George McManus and William Lindberg who have thirty-one years of combined service to the Village. We will be joined by the first-grade classes from Park Avenue School. This will be the 38th year that the Village has received recognition as a Tree City. We are one of the oldest Tree Cities in New York State. This is also the 22nd year that the Village has received the Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its Community Forestry Program. The event is co-sponsored by the Village Shade Tree Commission and the Warwick Valley Gardeners who help promote the education and public awareness of the importance of urban forestry. The children will receive saplings generously supplied by Wadeson’s Home Center.

On Saturday, April 30th at 10 a.m. the Town of Warwick Shade Tree Commission and Warwick Valley Gardeners will be celebrating the Town of Warwick’s Arbor Day at Wickham Woodlands. The public is invited to a ceremony and planting of a Ginko tree. The activity will take place near the parking lot outside the Hudson Sports Complex.

Also, on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. on March 30th Earthfest will be taking place at Stanley Deming Park. The event is produced by Wickham Works and is partially funded by Arts Mid-Hudson, Orange County Arts Council, and the Village of Warwick. This is a family event featuring games, live music and performances, upcycled artwork stations for hands on making. These activities will be in conjunction with a puppet show by the Modern Times Theater – recent recipient of a Jim Henson Foundation Grant.

We are bouncing back in a big way! I urge everyone to get out and enjoy small town life at its very best.

Congratulations to new Chief John Rader. We look forward to working with you and our shared desire for a safe and protected  community.

The next Village Board meeting will be Monday, April 18, 2022 7:30 p.m., Village Hall. 77 Main Street Warwick, NY.
