FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Nurturing, Belief and Miracles

Spring has been returning in a measured way, the ebb and flow of warmth, coolness, rain and clouds, all in moody variables. It’s a time of the rebirth of nature and maybe ourselves. In Christian belief it is the celebration of Easter and the miracle of resurrection. This year Passover and Easter coincide, Good Friday is the first day of Passover. The Passover story is about miracles as well. It is about the exodus of a people and the protection they found through their determination and spiritual beliefs.

Like many this is the time of year when I get up early to work in my garden and watch the world unfold. For myself, there are few greater joys than all the chores and tasks to bring my garden pack to life and to watch the small army of seedlings sprout. It’s always with a sense of hope and a vision of some form of Eden in every gardener’s head. I parallel my gardening sensibility to other parts of my life, in business, as a father and as Mayor. Though nurturing is not written in the job descriptions, it is inherent to the success of new ideas, developing personal pride and discovering love.

We are surrounded by miracles no matter what your beliefs, they are at our doorstep or in your garden everyday. Sometimes it is a matter of recognizing them and allowing them in. It comes down to faith, not just religious faith but also in the physical world and our fellow human beings – so simple to say, so difficult to achieve.

The war in the Ukraine fills our news and our senses. In a world of bullies and indifference it’s hard to acknowledge the presence of a saving grace or miracles and yet I’m sure they are occurring daily. It’s in the challenges of human turmoil that is when the greatest miracles occur. This year as we perform the rituals of our beliefs, whether in a church, a temple or a garden let’s bow our heads and think of this besieged country and its people and send them the message that we care and we stand with them.

On behalf of the Village Board of Trustees I wish all our Jewish and Christian friends and neighbors a blessed Passover and a Happy Easter.

Congratulations to retiring Chief Thomas McGovern Jr. who has given 43 years of service to our Village and Town. It was Tom’s leadership and surehanded  guidance that transformed our force to the exemplary department that exists today. Fine work in changing and often challenging times.

Congratulations to new Chief John Rader. We look forward to working with you and our shared desire for a safe and protected  community.

The next Village Board meeting will be Monday, April 18, 2022 7:30 p.m., Village Hall. 77 Main Street Warwick, NY.
