FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Back to Work and Not as Usual

Back to Work and Not as Usual

I would like to thank all the candidates who ran for office in the recent Village election. It was important and healthy to have a diversity of candidates.

To serve your community in the capacity as an elected official is a significant responsibility. It also has the reward of helping legislate, envision, and prepare us for the immediate needs and challenges and for the future. For myself – even in the heat of the campaign, it was a time to hear what is on the mind of those running but also the questions and responses from the public. It is that community dialogue that helps form priorities and change.

I also want to thank the voters who came out in record numbers to make their voices heard in total 1,431 voters which is 27.70% of the Village’s registered voters. I was honored and humbled to win by a large margin in a three-way race which was 58.40%.

Congratulations to my running mates Carly Foster and Tom McKnight who won with strong percentages as well. I was pleased we won as a team. I have great respect for these two individuals, and I believe they will bring fresh ideas and talent to the Board. During the campaign our mantra was to stay above board and to take the high road. Sometimes not an easy task in the face of the introduction of partisan politics in historically non-partisan Village elections and a full-blown assault by a local newspaper and radio station.

But now the work begins, and the new Board will be in place on the first meeting in April. Before then, I plan to have a work session to review and to discuss initiatives, responsibilities, and expectations.

I want to thank Trustees Bill Lindberg and George McManus who effectively served our Village as representatives. George has served 19 years and Bill For 12 years. In that time, they have been involved with countless projects and decisions that have shaped our Village to the place we see today – not only the Queen Village but one of the most recognized and honored communities in the Hudson Valley. Truly a labor of commitment and love.

March 17th was a little rainy but a great day for a St Patrick’s Day parade in the Village of Warwick, especially in honor of our friends and families of Irish descent. Congratulations to Police Chief Thomas McGovern who was Grand Marshall. Thank you to Brian McCabe and the Order of the Hibernians, Warwick, who helped organize what we are hoping will be a yearly event.

The next Village Board meeting will take place Monday, March 21, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
