FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: It Takes a Village DPW!

The mechanism of what makes a village work are complex. Administrative and legislative activity, a court and legal system, Code Enforcement, Planning and Zoning, the constant connection to civic and cultural organizations. The one integral piece is the constant daily and seasonal activities of our Department of Public Works. The department is broken out into different sectors which include roads, parks, water and sewer distribution. Each one of those headings encompass a tremendous amount of work and detail, for example Parks includes daily maintenance to major projects and installations and everything in between – preparing for a sports season or special event, tree planting or helping one of our many volunteer groups with their project or seasonal activity. We are a busy, active, and engaged community and our Public Works men and women bring their effectiveness, knowledge, talents, and sense of community to our Village. It’s through their work that the clean, beautiful, and safe place that we admire is maintained and as a result generates pride. The past months have been incredibly busy – laying water mains, road paving, bulk pick up, the building of a beautiful 9/11 Memorial Sculpture Garden. All of these activities are done seamlessly as part of what it takes not only to keep our Village on track but in the end to make it better. So, I simply want to say thank you for your hard work – you are essential in making our Village not only loved by its residents but admired throughout the Hudson Valley.Last week I spoke about the LDC that was created to work on issues of economic development in our Valley. I forgot to include an important member, Virginia ‘Ginny” Quackenbush who represented the Warwick Telephone Company and was a key part of our committee and its activities.

Congratulations to Sylvia and Arek Kubasiak, the owners of the Old Stone Inn aka The Hathorn House. The new restaurant and historic building will be open to the public in the next days. Please call or visit online for details. It was an incredible undertaking considering the age, condition and historic importance of the building and the results are spectacular. What a great addition to our roster of fine dining and memorable places.
