FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: The Sturgeon Moon

On Saturday, August 21st there will be a full moon commonly called the Sturgeon Moon. The name comes from Native American and early colonists as this was the best time to catch these remarkable, rather prehistoric fish.

Many people have asked what the construction is on the hill at Stanley Deming Park. The Village is working on a portion of the Roger Metzger Arboretum that will be a 9/11 Memorial. The area is designed as an outdoor room, enclosed by a ring of dwarf apple trees as a symbol of our protective valley. The monument is called ‘The 9/11 Memorial Sculpture Garden’ and was designed by local sculptor, Amy Lewis Sweetman. It incorporates an I-beam from the ravaged World Trade Center which was a gift from the late Senator Thomas Morahan. In the coming weeks there will be press releases with more details. 2021 marks 20 years since the tragic event occurred where we lost the lives of local residents and that changed America. There will be a dedication ceremony following the Memorial Service at the 9/11 Monument in Memorial Park on Saturday, September 11th.  The Memorial Service at Memorial Park is at 5:00 p.m. and the 9/11 Memorial Sculpture Garden Dedication Ceremony at Stanley Deming Park will be at 6:00 p.m.

This evening, Friday August 20th the Free Shrimp Band will be playing on the lawn at Stanley Deming Park. The show starts at 7:00 p.m., bring achair and enjoy the last licks of summer.

A Special Meeting of the Village Board will take place Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
