From the Mayor’s Office : A Reason to Celebrate!

From The Mayor’s Office

July 1, 2021

On July 4th we celebrate the birth of American independence. After a year where our independence and freedom were so severely altered due to COVID -19 it is a moment to reflect and to recognize that our liberties should never be taken for granted. It is a pivotal moment to take stock of what is valuable, meaningful, and true.

On a local level we have many reasons to celebrate as we begin the road to normalcy.

I am grateful we could have an in-person graduation ceremony. The ability to honor our young men and women before they take off for the next phase in their lives was an important demonstration of our pride and a lasting memory for our young graduates. Again, congratulations WVHS Class of 2021 and thank you to the Warwick School District for their work that made this event a reality.

The same for the Annual Fireman’s Carnival which made folks smile again. Thank you to our local firemen for all they do to keep us safe and especially for giving the community a bit of fun. This year’s fireworks were spectacular. Thank you to Leo Kaytes Ford for sponsoring them. A generous gift – they had significant meaning this year as we celebrate our community and our great country.

Summer ahead and much to do and see in our Valley! The Village’s Summer Concert Series will be taking place at Stanley Deming Park. There will be concerts the next 7 consecutive Saturdays! Please go to the Village of Warwick NY Summer Concert Series Facebook page or to the Villages website for concert dates and information. Bring a blanket or a chair. Plenty of room to spread out, relax and listen to some great music in a beautiful setting.

The Warwick Valley Gardeners will be hosting their 27th. annual Garden Tour on Saturday July10th with a rain date of July 11th. Tickets can be purchased online at www.warwickgardeners.com.  See some of the most beautiful gardens in our Valley.

The Warwick Merchants Guild Annual Sidewalk Sale, Pickers Paradise is Saturday, July 10th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 11th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A great reason to come downtown and find a treasure or two as well as a visit your favorite shops, cafes, and restaurants.

On July 10th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. you are invited to help paint the picket fence in Lewis Park! A Tom Sawyer moment in your community. The cost is $10 per person which helps defer the cost of materials. Free to WHS members. For a reservation, please call the Warwick Historical Society at 845-986-3236.

And on the horizon are many events including a day of family fun activities. The Warwick Historical Society’s annual George Washington Day is July 24th which starts with a 5k run. It is a day of historic tours to the many museum buildings and finishes with a free family movie outdoors in Lewis Park! For more info, please go to their website www.warwickhistory.org.
