Press Release: Revisions to Outdoor Dining

The Village Board has made the following changes to begin immediately in the Road Closure/Outdoor Dining Program:

Main Street will be closed on Friday and Saturday evenings only. Set up will begin one hour later at 5:30 p.m., as opposed to 4:30 p.m., and cleanup must be complete by 11:00 p.m.

Main Street will remain open to traffic on Sundays; however Main Street restaurants may set up tables from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the entire sidewalk in front of their establishment. Parking spaces will be fenced off to allow room for pedestrian access. Each restaurant will be responsible for their set up.

Spring Street and Railroad Avenue will remain open to traffic on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

These changes are made for multiple reasons, with public safety being a priority. Due to the volume of traffic, which is very different than last year, the Board recognizes that detours have pushed traffic into residential neighborhoods which creates safety issues. There is also a scarcity of parking on Sundays due to the Warwick Valley Farmer’s Market in the South Street lot. These changes are also taking into consideration our retail partners.

There are many parts to this puzzle. We want our restaurants to be successful and our neighborhoods safe.

Very truly yours,

Michael J. Newhard
