FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Spring Ahead!

March is an eventful month. Just to keep track, March 14th is Daylight Savings, the 17th is St. Patrick’s Day, Spring arrives on the 20th, Passover is the 27th and Palm Sunday the 28th. On your mark, get ready… This is definitely the transitional month when we are all taking stock – looking at our yards in the aftermath of a long winter, making lists, visiting our friends at Wadeson’s, Werner’s, with so many, “how to” questions, planting peas, fertilizing trees! The lists get long but there is something rewarding about being organized and prepared.

The Village is hoping to resume its recreation program this Summer. With the careful leadership of Rec Director Ron Introini, we are mapping out the return of our sports programs and the Stanley Deming Park Camp program. Last year was probably the first time since its inception, over 80 years ago, that the program had to be postponed. So, we are excited and will keep you posted about the details and possible changes we will need to make to ensure the safety of our children and our staff.

Internally at Village Hall we are very busy preparing for the season ahead. We are in the midst of budget work sessions but besides that, there are the myriad details and activities that are brought on by the change of season. Just as a homeowner takes stock, so do our Village Departments. This is the time we begin to get our parks and municipal spaces ready for the public. In the time of COVID-19, these outdoor spaces take on greater meaning and use. More than ever, it is important for our Village to be inviting. Our local greenhouses, based on decisions made months ago, are already growing the plants that will make our downtown a beautiful and memorable place. It is, as you know, a team effort and the work of neighbors, merchants, civic organizations, volunteer groups, scouts, and local churches is really the secret ingredient to all that you see that is good.

Don’t forget to reset your clocks on March 14th! Spring ahead!
