FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: The Things That are Important

Over the past months of quarantine, social distancing; the changes of how we interact and how we adjust, has become a key part of our daily lives. Our once vibrant calendar of social events has been changed dramatically and relegated to the land of stay at home or virtual events. This, of course, has its ripple effects throughout the community and country. One of the most dramatic of these issues is the ability for our non-profits to do their yearly and ongoing fundraising. That revenue creation has been done in the past through key events such as dinners, parties, galas, festivals, auctions, walks, tournaments, and runs to name a few. The things that dot our calendar, social gatherings that we look forward to, maybe buy a new dress or a jacket and tie – a night out to relax but more importantly, to support a cause.

The organizations and causes have not gone away but their ability to fundraise is seriously handicapped. There are of course many creative efforts that have occurred, and these will continue to help but do not have the economic impact that is derived from large social gatherings. So, my friends, this is the time we need to help.

This is the time that a monetary donation will have its greatest impact on any of our charities, civic or non-profit organizations. There are many in the Warwick Valley and these groups have been here to help us and to support us in so many ways.

For a moment, think about our community and our lives without these vital organizations. What would we be without Winslow Therapeutic, the Warwick Valley Community Center, the Historical Society or Chamber of Commerce, the Ecumenical Food Pantry, Backpack Snack Attack, Bon Secours Warwick  Foundation, the Humane Society, our Spiritual Organizations, Churches and Temples, our Veteran’s Organizations – VFW, American Legion, Heroes in Deed, Hugs for Heroes, our EMS – Ambulance and Firemen. PBA, Warwick Rotary and Lions Club, Fraternity Organizations – Masons, Oddfellows, Youth Sports Programs, and Organizations, and the list goes on…

We are coming back slowly but surely, yet there is still a long way to go. Let’s not lose the things that are important to us. Please support our nonprofits and organizations that make the Warwick Valley exceptional. Your help is crucial and most needed now.

The Warwick Fire Department will hold the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11^th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial in Veterans Memorial Park, located at 60 Forester Ave. in Warwick.
