From the Mayor’s Office – Full Fall!

From The Mayor’s Office

Fall in the Warwick Valley unfolds before us in measured grandeur. There are so many unexpected and breathtaking moments – a simple view is now emblazoned with fiery trees, the long afternoon light and early evening shadows merge in a remarkable luminous tapestry across the landscape. There is a different palette now, a seasonal blend of deep reds, soft purples, bright golds. It is the time of apples, pumpkins, cornstalks, gourds and weekend guests. We define our visits to our supermarkets and farmer’s markets on the day of the week – all bets are off as the weekend comes close. The calendar is marked by special events, some large, some small and very local, they all are part of our life here in this beautiful part of New York State, the Warwick Valley!

Some very special local events: Sunday, October 27th at 4:00 p.m. there will be a concert, “An Afternoon with Betsy Straton.” The concert will be at the Old School Baptist Meeting House and is a fundraiser for the restoration efforts of the Meeting House, tickets are $40.00. Betsy is a Warwick native blessed with an amazing talent as a singer and songwriter. She has performed internationally and has produced four cd albums. Her music is rooted in the tradition of American folksongs with influences that span the globe. Her voice is hypnotic. This is the concert venue of the season and tickets are limited. For ticket sales and information please contact the Warwick Historical Society at 845-986-3236 ext. 101. The concert is sponsored through a tourism grant from Orange County Tourism, the Village of Warwick and The Warwick Valley Historical Society.

On Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. there will be a public information forum on the Warwick Skatepark initiative. The forum will be held in the Park Avenue School Cafeteria. The forum will unveil the design for a new skatepark in Memorial Park. This is the start of an initiative to raise funds for an extraordinary skate facility whose design is based on parks used for Olympic trials. This is very exciting, and all are invited.

More to come October 30th, the annual Scare the Mayor Contest! And October 31st, the Village of Warwick and Warwick Valley Lion’s annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest. Check this website for more information.

The next Village Board meeting will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Village Hall, located at 77 Main St. in Warwick.
