FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – A Very Busy Time

From The Mayor’s Office

The beginning months of the year are extremely active, busy times, for local government. For the past months, we’ve been laying out new policies, incorporating new systems, working on a budget for the upcoming year.

This year’s budget is being worked on now. It’s probably the most difficult budget our Board has had to contend with over the years due to the proposed upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant. The Village received an EFC grant which will fund 1/3 of the twelve-million-dollar project. The Village is looking at other grant opportunities, but the large number looms and we are working to find the best strategy that will cover the costs.

This may result in either short or long-term bonds – no matter what, it will have a dramatic effect on our taxes.

The Village has been able to maintain a less than 2% yearly tax increase since the Governor put those parameters in place in 2012. The rehabilitation of vital infrastructure is usually coupled with significant costs and the Board recognizes that this project, though not an easy task, is paramount to the future of our Village.
