FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – Signs of the Season Ahead

The Merchant Guild’s ‘Ladies Night Out’, the Historical Society’s ‘Party in the Park’ are always scheduled for late August. In my mind they represent the end of summer. Labor Day is Monday and school begins September 5th and 6th.  Please be careful on Village streets and drive carefully. Many school children walk to and from school and children are at bus stops as well. Plan your commute accordingly. In the blink of an eye summer has become a memory.

Enters Fall. Well, actually a few weeks away, September 22nd to be exact, but here in the Valley it’s a busy time as there is always anticipation and preparation. Fall is the season of apple orchards, wineries, distilleries, breweries, and weekend tourism. The Valley is welcoming and beautiful and it’s easy to see why so many folks visit us.

The Warwick Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual Taste of Warwick. This year it is September 17th at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. The Taste of Warwick celebrates the culinary offerings of our Valley’s finest restaurants and chefs. It’s always a fun social event. For information on tickets please visit the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce website at www.warwickcc.org

The Fall is about harvest and the Warwick Farmers’ Market is bursting with late summer offerings. We have an extraordinary market with some of the finest growers and specialty food producers. A September Sunday in our Village is alive with the sounds, smells and visual beauty of the season.

Recently a former resident and film maker, Michael McVey, sent me the film he created for the Village’s Sesquicentennial which was represented at this year’s Warwick’s Arts Festival, Film Festival. It’s a remarkable and beautiful film that captures the natural beauty of our Valley. You can access it at http://vimeo.com/278840819  We will be putting it on our website and FB page, so we can share this artistic rendition of our Warwick Valley.

The next Village Board meeting will take place Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
