FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – The Enchanted

This past weekend I was a guest, honoree and keynote speaker at the 20th Anniversary Gala of Chosun Taekwondo Academy. It was a wonderful evening of celebration for Grand Master Doug Cook and his wife Patty and all the members of the Chosun Academy. During the evening there were many comments about Chosun’s activities in our community and each time Warwick was described as “enchanted.” I’ve always thought we had something very special here and enchanted is the perfect description.

At this time of year our little Village takes on a snow globe quality: The lights and displays, the sound and sight of the horse drawn carriage, the bustle of shoppers, the ringing of bells, carolers, the spontaneity of the season. It is enchanted!

This week marks the beginning of the Holy Days of Hanukah. The Menorah Lighting led by Moshe Shwartzberg will take place this Tuesday at Lewis Park. On behalf of the Village of Warwick Board of Trustees and all our Village employees, I wish our Jewish friends and neighbors a Happy Hanukah.

A special thank you to Dan Chester who, during the Holiday Program of the Hudson Valley Chamber Series, helped celebrate the Village Sesquicentennial with a playing of “The Red Swan Two Step.” This was music written in 1903 by Alice M. Sayer in honor of Clinton W. Wisner, former Village Mayor (1893-1897) and visionary of early Warwick.

The music had all the flavor of the era and was energetically played by Joseph and Ralph Alessi, Jay Leonhart, Rick Cutler and orchestrated and played by pianist Lee Musiker. It was a wow! And we appreciate the recognition by such well known and talented artists.

Special congratulations to Library Director, Rosemary Cooper, recipient of the Carnegie Award for her remarkable service to the library and to our community. Brava Rosemary! and thank you for your hard work and spirit that has created a library and cultural center for the 21st century.

Thank you as well to the Warwick Fire Department Historical Committee who took part in the Sesquicentennial’s most recent Second Sunday Conversation. It was an amazing afternoon of history and knowledge sharing. The Warwick Fire Department will be celebrating its Sesquicentennial in 2019 so get ready!

The next Village Board meeting will take place Monday, December 18, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 77 Main Street.
