FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – APPLE EVE 2018, A Final Note to the Future

As part of the Apple Eve Festivities to end the Sesquicentennial Year we will be the burying of a very important note to the future. A beautiful stainless-steel Time Capsule will be buried at Railroad Green. The Time Capsule was designed by architect David Brandt and given to the Village just for this purpose. This past August we buried a very large Time Capsule with hundreds of letters from the community as well as artifacts and memorabilia.

This capsule is much smaller, so it was decided to fill it with the information that would explain and describe the planning of our year of celebration. The hope is that it will be dug up on Apple Eve 2067 as the first message from the past. Included will also be the entire collection of graphic documents including posters and flyers as well as a letter from the Executive Committee and personal letters from Mr. Brandt. This is a fond farewell to an unforgettable year and will be our first hello to the future!

One of the important things that will be in the Time Capsule is the Commemorative Booklet created to document the entire year. The booklet was a labor of love by the Commemorative Book Committee. The book was designed using the branding guidelines of the Sesquicentennial, it was laid out by Bea Arner and printed at Warwick Press. It’s the size of a small phonebook and filled with pictures and stories of the entire year. At last count there were 56 separate events! The book is available at Track 7, Frazzleberries, Newhard’s, Etched in Time, Ye Olde Warwick Book Shoppe. A great keepsake and great gift for $14.95!

So farewell Sesquicentennial Year. It’s been fun. We accomplished and learned a great deal about creating events that were inclusive, had historic context and showed our community pride.

Thank you to all involved – the list is long and the memories are vivid with the details of a remarkable Village at a time I think we needed a bit of celebration.

On behalf of the Village Board I would like to wish all our friends and neighbors a Happy and Healthy 2018!! The best is yet to come!!
