FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – A September to Remember!

The Second Sunday Conversations Series continues on Sunday, September 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Buckbee Center with a talk by Christopher Jend. The topic is EGW Dietrich: The Picturesque Effect. Mr. Jend is an architect and has researched the work of architect EGW Dietrich. Dietrich designed some of the most beautiful residential structures in Warwick from the 1880’s through the early 1900’s. Some of the homes designed by Dietrich include “The Anchorage”, “Dolce Donum”, “The Arches”, as well as the Warwick Reformed Church and the former Red Swan Inn.  There will also be an exhibit of photographs and drawings of EGW Dietrich work.

This is a series sponsored by The Warwick Historical Society, The Albert Wisner Library in conjunction with the Sesquicentennial Committee.

On Monday, September 11th the community will honor the men and women who lost their lives on September 11th. The ceremony, organized by the Warwick Fire Department, will take place at the September 11th Memorial Monument in Memorial Park on Forester Avenue at 6:00 p.m. This year there will be a dedication of a tree, recently received by our Community through the efforts of Deb Schweikert. The tree was grown from the seeds of a tree that survived the collapse of the twin towers and has been planted adjacent to the monument. The monument, designed by local architect Dave Brandt, pays homage to the men and women we lost locally on that painful day in 2001. All are welcome.

The annual Taste of Warwick is sponsored by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and will be Tuesday, September 12th from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Warwick Valley Winery. This is a great event showcasing the gourmet fare of the Warwick Valley. For information and tickets please call 986-2720 or visit www.warwickcc.org.

Saturday, September 16th will be the Warwick Valley Central School District Annual Homecoming Parade which will be coming up Main Street at approximately 12:00 p.m.

On Sunday, September 24th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the annual Project Knomad, Game of Skate will take place at the Robert J. Newhard Skate Park in Memorial Park. This year’s skateboard competition is themed “Future Skate” and is a fundraiser for a new skate park. Designs for the new park will be shown during the event, as well as images of the beginning years of the park. Our skate park was one of the first in the Hudson Valley and the plans for a new park are exciting. This is a family event and all are invited to participate and to join the fun. This year the event is co-sponsored by the Sesquicentennial Committee.

Also, on Sunday, September 24th at 4:00 p.m. there will be a Hispanic Parade, celebrating Hispanic culture. The parade will be on Main Street, followed by events on Railroad Green. All are invited.
