FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Considering Santa’s schedule, we are very lucky indeed to have a last-minute visit! Santa will be in the Village on Saturday, December 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Akin’s Pharmacy – 33 Main Street. Bring a letter to Santa and make sure you have your camera to take a photo! This is a Sesquicentennial sponsored event.

As Christmas draws closer our Village is bustling with shoppers. In the age of malls and internet sales it is a testament to our community and the support that’s given to local businesses. It is of course the entirety of Village life that is so compelling, so rich in details and humanity.

Soon we will close the pages of the Sesquicentennial Year. It has been a wonderfully memorable experience. Along the way we have thanked many people and organizations, but I want to thank my “in house” team of Mary Collura and Bill Lindberg. The work for this year began in 2016 and Mary and Bill have been completely committed from the start. This has been party planning on overdrive. Bill’s organizational abilities combined with Mary’s creativity were a perfect match. Throughout the year there have been over fifty-six events! – some very large, some small, but all important. The year has been a celebration of our Village through inclusivity and fun and I am so pleased to have helped present that with the unwavering support and enthusiasm of Mary and Bill. Thank you for an unforgettable time.

The Sesquicentennial Commemorative Book featuring activities of the entire year will be available starting Saturday, December 23rd. It is a beautiful comprehensive book of an exciting year. The books are $14.95 and available during Santa’s visit at Akin’s Pharmacy as well as the other stores who have been selling Sesquicentennial Merchandise: Track 7 Postal Center, Frazzleberries, Ye Olde Warwick Book Shoppe, Etched in Time, and Newhard’s.

Celebrate the Winter Solstice on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. December 21st. All are invited to meet at the Peace Wall at Sanfordville School for a special event that includes music, poetry and a candle lighting. This is presented by Imagine Warwick.

On behalf of the Village Board and the entire staff at Village Hall and our Department of Public Works, I wish all a very Merry Christmas.
