At the turn of the century and until the dawn of radio and television locals met in parlors and living rooms around the community to discuss current events. It was called the Fortnightly Club. During the Sesquicentennial Year we’ve taken this idea and have had wonderful monthly discussions. These have been called, “Second Sunday Conversations.”
This coming Sunday will be another of the series with the topic of Agritourism called, “The Spirits of Agriculture: Warwick’s Wineries, Breweries, Distilleries and Cideries.”
These growing activities represent the manufacturing end of our agricultural businesses. Farming remains the largest business in the Valley – agritourism: and specifically, wineries, distilleries, breweries and cideries are a valuable offshoot and economic engine.
The panel will include representatives from a local distillery, brewery, cidery and three wineries. The panel represents a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs and the discussion should be enlightening and fun. There will be an historic over view by Dr. Richard Hull to begin the program.
The “Conversation” will be this Sunday, November 12th at 12:00 p.m. at the Old School Baptist Meeting House. The Second Sunday Conversations are supported by the Sesquicentennial Committee, the Warwick Historical Society and the Albert Wisner Library.
Later the same day, Sunday, November 12th, will be a fund raiser at the Buckbee Center located at 2 Colonial Avenue called Wine, Cheese and Jazz! Over twenty wines and selective complementary chesses and of course, Jazz! The event is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will also be a commemorative wine glass in honor of the Village’s 150th Anniversary!
Thursday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m. the Warwick Historical Society, Warwick Valley Post 4662 VFW and American Legion Post 214 present, “Commemoration: A Veterans Day Observance” at the Old School Baptist Meeting House on Main Street. The public is invited.
