FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – The Baton Passes

This week Village Clerk, Jo-Ann Rome, will be retiring.  I want to take a moment to say thank you for her remarkable work during her 15 years of service to the Village of Warwick.  Jo has worn many hats beyond the daily activities of the Clerk’s Office.  These included Receiver of Taxes, Office Staff Liaison, Risk Management, Records Management, Overseer of Elections, Website Administrator, fact checker, arbitrator and confidential secretary to the Mayor.  She has been a leader and a committed member to the team at Village Hall whose commitment is to the residents of our Village.  On behalf of the Village Board and as a representative of the good people of our community I would like to say “thank you” and wish you all the best n your retirement.

I would also like to welcome Raina Abramson to her new position as Village Clerk.  Raina has been working at Village Hall for two years and has worked in almost every department.  Over the past six months she has been preparing for her new role.  Jo-Ann has given her valuable training that will make the transition as seamless as possible.  We are very pleased to have Raina as our new Village Clerk.

Scare the Mayor!  As part of this year’s Halloween celebration there will be a Haunted House Contest judged by myself and Kid Mayor, Daniel Alquezada Madero.  The contest is for Village residents only; judging will be the evening of October 30th.  Register by calling Village Hall at 986-2031.  Prizes for the top three scariest houses!  This is a Sesquicentennial sponsored contest.  Other fun Halloween events included “Day of the Dead” haunted house at the Community Center on Hamilton Avenue Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  This is a fundraiser for the Warwick Valley Community Center.  There is a $15.00 charge.  Look for postcards in local stores for a discounted price!

On Tuesday, October 31st there will be the Annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest.  Lineup is at 4:30 p.m. on Church Street.  The parade steps off at 5:00 p.m. down Main Street to Railroad Avenue.  This event is sponsored by the Lions Club and the Warwick Recreation Department.  There is a Halloween curfew for all persons under the age of 18 unless accompanied by a parent on all Village streets and parks and other public areas in the Village of Warwick between the hours of 8 p.m. on Monday, October 30th to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31st and again on Tuesday, October 31st from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Wednesday, November 1st.
