FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE – Back to the Future!

The first evening of the Sesquicentennial Summer Celebration begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Railroad Green which will include a ribbon cutting, a special cake from Jean Claude’s Patisserie, Oxford Depot Blue Grass Band, Chris Ford D.J. Dance Party and the Mayor and Mayoress of Warwick, England as our guests!! Please look for the pull out schedule of events in today’s paper for the entire four days.  This will be fun and I have heard that many families will be hosting reunions so they can participate in the activities.

Fifty years ago in 1967 the Village sponsored a similar event which included burying of a time capsule.  The moment has come to unearth the messages and artifacts from the past.  This will take place on August 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the entrance of Memorial Park.  We are very excited to open up this messenger from the centennial celebration.  Letters and objects will be documented and at noon distributed at the American Legion Hall next to the site.

A new time capsule will be buried during 2017.  The Committee felt it was better to wait until after the August event which will allow many more people to participate.  Mail boxes have been put in stores throughout the Village.  This request is to keep the letters and photos to a #10 envelope which measures 4 1/8” x 9 ½”.

I’ve been thinking a great deal about the letter I want to write to my son who will be 67 in 2067.  What a thought!  I also plan to write a letter to the future Mayor and to the community.  What will Warwick be like?  In my mind I believe a better place, more beautiful and diverse.  I feel we’ve accomplished so much since 1967 and much of it is unexpected so it’s hard to guess the future.  Being visionary is part of our success so I believe the future holds great promise.

I overheard a visitor the other day – a young lady who said to her friend, “It’s interesting – this place really thinks about its past and its future.  That’s pretty cool”.  I couldn’t think of a better way to describe what happens here.

The next Village Board meeting is Monday, August 7th at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.
